Panama extends transit visa for Cuban citizens until 2029

Panama City, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Panama has extended the validity until 2029 of the transit visa required for passengers or crew members who are Cuban citizens making a stopover in the country en route to other destinations.

The new regulation establishes that the measure will remain in effect until June 30, 2029, and will take effect upon its promulgation.

The transit visa allows authorized travelers to remain in the airport’s international transit area for up to 24 hours in order to continue to another destination or return to their country of origin.

The provision primarily affects Cuban passengers using Tocumen International Airport, in the capital, as an air connection point.

However, the requirement does not apply to all citizens of the Caribbean nation transiting through the country, as it includes exceptions for certain passengers. These include those traveling back to the island, those holding a valid Panamanian tourist or residence visa, and those with permanent residence in a third country who are traveling back to that country.

Also exempt are individuals holding a valid entry visa for their final destination country, as well as those with valid residency or specific multiple-entry visas issued by countries recognized by Panama for their migration control standards—including the United States, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and European Union member nations.

The regulation also covers individuals who can prove their employment status in the destination country through the required documentation.
