Hanyelo, who led the batting rankings in the fourth edition of the Cuban Elite Baseball League, commented that not making the preliminary roster for the team representing the country at the Central American and Caribbean Games affected him somewhat.
“I believe that, given my results in the National Series and the summer tournament, the numbers supported my case to at least have a chance to fight for a ticket on the team; however, the coaching staff chose other athletes, and that is something I respect,” he noted.
Videt—who is on the roster for the Under-23 team representing Cuba at the World Cup in that age group later this year—said it is a source of pride for him and his family to defend Cuba’s colors in an international event.
“Heading into the tournament, my expectations are to give my all and go out and have fun on the field, just as I do when playing for my province team; playing baseball for the love of the game is a defining trait of mine,” he added.
The talented outfielder from Matanzas is currently training alongside the rest of the preliminary squad of the reigning domestic champions, preparing for the upcoming edition of the tournament—scheduled for October—in the largest Caribbean island.
