The garment evokes the traditional uniforms of Cuban sports and highlights the ties that have bound Ireland to the island for generations.
Thirty percent of the proceeds from sales will go directly to Cuba Vive and MediCuba Europe—organizations that provide medicines, medical equipment, and solar power systems to a healthcare system struggling with shortages caused by the US government’s blockade.
The design features the “Lone Star” from the Cuban flag on the collar, khaki and black stripes running down the body of the jersey, and excerpts from the historic speech Ernesto “Che” Guevara delivered at the 1965 Afro-Asian Solidarity Conference in Algiers.
The iconic image of Che Guevara created by Dublin artist Jim Fitzpatrick appears at the bottom hem, while a quote attributed to the guerrilla fighter’s father is inscribed beneath the collar: “The blood of Irish rebels ran in my son’s veins.”
The initiative is complemented by two short films exploring the connections between anti-colonial resistance, soccer, and music—films that Bohemian FC views as an explicit statement against the US blockade of Cuba.
Daniel Lambert, the club’s commercial director, stated that the collaboration aims to “highlight this grave injustice and raise funds to save lives on the island,” a gesture that reaffirms the club’s tradition of merging sports with social causes.
