Official statistics show that 406 homicide victims were recorded between January and August, equal to 384 during the same period in 2025—a six percent increase—according to the updated report from the Attorney General’s Office.

April saw the highest number of victims, with 63 cases, followed by May with 58 and August with 54. February recorded the lowest number, with 37.

Panama Province accounted for 176 victims and the San Miguelito district for 78, totaling 254 cases across both areas. They were followed by the provinces of Colon, with 71, and Panama Oeste, with 34.

Among the most significant increases were the western province of Chiriqui, which went from eight to 21 victims, and Cocle, which rose from six to 14, according to official data.

The majority of victims were men (376 cases), while 29 were women; in one instance, the gender could not be determined.

The most affected age group was 18 to 24-year-olds, with 99 victims, followed by those aged 25 to 29, with 70. Additionally, 39 victims were under the age of 18.

Femicides rose from nine to 16—a 78 percent increase—while attempted femicides went from 13 to 18. Violent deaths of women also increased, rising from 11 to 13 cases.
