Chilean academic forum analyzes Fidel’s ideas and changes in Cuba

Santiago, Chile, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) — The Fidel Castro Ruz Permanent International Academic Forum, established in Chile, analyzed the ongoing relevance of the Cuban Revolutionary leader’s thought within the economic and social transformations currently underway on the island.

During a session held at the headquarters of the Confederation of Metalworkers (Constramet), DhD. Carlos Garcia, an expert in economic sciences, lectured on the changes that have taken place in Cuba from the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959, til today.

He noted that the achievements in education, science, technology, healthcare, and culture not only endure but also serve as the foundation for implementing the 176 measures designed to address a complex situation, further complicated by the intensification of the United States blockade.

“These economic measures embody Fidel’s thinking and his definition of ‘Revolution’—as an understanding of the historical moment and a commitment to changing everything that needs to be changed,” he stated.

He pointed out that this program of transformation upholds the fundamental role of the State and “people’s power” (popular power), the planning of social programs, and the principle that land belongs to the entire nation; it also assigns a primary role to the municipality in managing economic processes.

The session was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, human rights organizations, educators, trade unionists, local residents, students, and social and environmental activists.

Ninoska Henríquez, representing the Chilean chapter of the Antifascist International for Education, denounced the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, describing it as an act of genocide against the Cuban people.

Alexei Felizola, a counselor at the Cuban Embassy in Chile, expressed his gratitude to the forum and to Professor Carlos Garcia, who provided an overview of the history of the revolutionary process and the ideas of Fidel—ideas that guided the Cuban people toward their emancipation.
