Lula authorizes the disclosure of his bank, tax, and phone records

Brasilia, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has submitted an authorization to the Superior Electoral Court to open his bank, tax, and phone records—as well as those of his family.

The initiative includes the First Lady, Rosangela da Silva—known as “Janja”—and the president’s five children.

It covers information from the last eight years and provides for the public disclosure of this data, on the condition that Senator Flavio Bolsonaro—Lula’s opponent in the presidential runoff—takes a similar step.

According to media reports, including the portal *Brasil 247*, the Workers’ Party campaign formalized this authorization with the electoral authorities after the head of state announced the decision yesterday during a campaign event in Porto Alegre, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

“I want to see if he has the courage to open up his bank and phone records,” Lula said, reiterating his challenge to his rival from the Liberal Party and asserting that the public has a right to know the details regarding both candidates vying for the presidency.

Lula also requested that this initiative extend to the senator’s family members—including his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro—as well as to their companies and business interests.

This controversy gained prominence during the first presidential debate ahead of the runoff, held on October 18 and broadcast by the *Band* network.

During that debate, the candidates traded accusations regarding alleged financial irregularities and corruption, with Lula questioning the assets of Flavio Bolsonaro.
