According to a statement, the event was organized by the *Casal Cuba* of Sabadell and featured contributions from Pascual Serrano, a journalist and co-editor of the book; Anibal Garzon, a sociologist and contributor to the volume; and Ariel Trutie, representing the Consulate General of Cuba in Barcelona.
The evening, moderated by Tere Ibanez—of the *Casal Cuba* of Sabadell and the *Defensem Cuba* (Defend Cuba) coordinating body—served as a tribute ahead of the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth. It carried particular significance given the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the Caribbean nation.
This policy stifles the Cuban people and violates their most fundamental human rights. Consequently, *Voces con Fidel* stands as an act of denunciation and active solidarity, reclaiming truth and memory as tools for resistance, reported the outlet *Cubainformacion*.
Pascual Serrano, the book’s co-editor, addressed the need to reclaim the figure of Fidel Castro in the face of a campaign of demonization and silencing promoted by mainstream media outlets.
Meanwhile, sociologist and contributor Anibal Garzon went over the Cuban Revolution’s internationalist legacy, highlighting South-South solidarity—as well as medical and educational cooperation—as pillars of Cuban foreign policy, even amidst the blockade.
Meanwhile, diplomat Ariel Trutie shared a firsthand account of the impact of the blockade on the daily lives of the Cuban population, as well as the resilience and dignity with which the people confront this ongoing aggression.
