Remembering the words of Jose Marti, Cuba’s National Hero—who stated, “Whoever stands up for Cuba today, stands up for all time”—the group called on the international community to demonstrate its support for the Caribbean nation during the upcoming United Nations vote against the blockade on the 28th of this month.
In a statement Prensa Latina learnt that the Association noted that the extraterritorial measures targeting fuel supplies amount to a naval blockade, intended to strangle the Cuban economy.
The statement added that by restricting energy supplies and severing commercial and financial channels, a *de facto* collective punishment is being imposed—one that violates the Cuban people’s right to exist and to develop.
This situation has exacerbated shortages of fuel, food, medicine, electricity, and basic services, with the aim of triggering a humanitarian crisis, the statement continued—a position also endorsed by individuals who studied in Cuba and members of the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity.
In denouncing military threats against Cuba, the Association asserted that such actions violate the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter, as well as international and humanitarian law, while undermining regional peace and stability.
Laos—which has also demanded that Cuba be removed from the United States’ arbitrary and illegal unilateral list of “state sponsors of terrorism”—reiterates its unwavering solidarity with the revolutionary government, its leaders, and the Cuban people, while reaffirming Cuba’s right to defend its sovereignty and independence.
