According to Agencia Brasil, Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard highlighted the significance of these results for exploration prospects in this area along the northern coast of the South American nation.
“Our technical persistence enabled three discoveries in the same well, which makes us even more optimistic regarding the exploratory potential of the Equatorial Margin,” she emphasized.
The next stage involves the technical abandonment of the well—a procedure that marks the conclusion of operations at that site.
Subsequently, the drilling rig will be moved to the Potiguar Basin, off the coast of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, where work will begin at a site known as Mae de Ouro.
The Equatorial Margin stretches from Amapa to Rio Grande do Norte and represents one of the primary focuses for the Brazilian oil industry as it seeks to expand its exploration areas in deep and ultra-deep waters.
Meanwhile, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office has once again requested that the courts suspend the environmental license granted to Petrobras for operations in the Amazon River Mouth Basin.
Furthermore, the identification of oil in the well does not necessarily mean that commercially exploitable reserves exist; assessing the volumes, the characteristics of the hydrocarbons, and the economic viability of potential production will require further studies.
