The text, authored by journalist Factor Mendez, notes that the United Nations (UN) General Assembly met once again at its New York headquarters on October 27 and 28—for the thirty-fourth time.
On that occasion, he explained, the assembly met to consider and discuss a resolution calling for the lifting of the inhumane economic, financial—and now, oil—blockade that the U.S. government has imposed on Cuba since 1962.
More than six decades have passed under a measure that hinders normal activity and stifles the lives of the Cuban population, he pointed out.
During the administration of President Donald Trump, this malicious siege against Cuba intensified as never before, following the reactivation of an executive order that placed the country on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, he described.
Furthermore, he noted, the supply of oil was blocked, preventing the largest Caribbean island from receiving or acquiring this essential fuel. Added to all this are threats of military aggression, he emphasized.
Expressions of solidarity with Cuba continue, as nations understand the difficulties the island faces and view this measure as the longest-running genocide in history, Mendez stated.
