Organized by the Union of Base Trade Unions (USB), the mobilization brought together workers, students, pensioners, farmers, social movements, and labor organizations across more than 60 cities, with demonstrations spanning the entire peninsula from north to south.
The protest’s broad geographical scope and young people and students’ involvement in these labor and social demands were particularly notable.
The leading demands focused on restoring the purchasing power of wages; lowering the costs of food, energy, and rent; defending public services; and opposing policies of rearmament and the use of public funds to finance armed conflicts.
The day unfolded peacefully, though incidents did occur in several cities, including Rome, where some groups attempted to break through police cordons to reach government buildings.
Meanwhile, objects were thrown, and trash containers were set on fire in the vicinity of the Colosseum.
Media reported that clashes also took place in Turin, near the Prefecture and later in the city’s historical district, with throwing bottles, police charges, and the use of tear gas.
