First Deputy Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Minister (MINCEX) Ana Teresita Gonzalez stressed that the donation constitutes a selfless gesture of solidarity from a friendly nation, and it will be an important contribution to Cuba’s healthcare system.
Gonzalez noted that the resources arrived in the country under complex circumstances, exacerbated by the unprecedented intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
Hungarian Ambassador to Cuba Balazs Heincz pointed out that the donation comes through Hungary Helps, a specialized department of his country’s Foreign Ministry that supports regions affected by natural or other disasters.
Heincz noted that this year Hungary and Cuba celebrated six decades of diplomatic relations, and they are currently strengthening economic and commercial agreements, as well as initiatives in the agri-food, hydraulic and biotechnological sectors.
The diplomat stressed that Hungary is committed to the development of multilateral links and mutual aid as essential ways to survive the global crisis that affects contemporary societies.
The MINCEX deputy minister said in this regard that solidarity and collaboration are essential to fight Covid-19.
Gonzalez recalled that over the last two years, Cuba has received donations like the one from Hungary and, in expression of the humanist and internationalist vocation of the Cuban Revolution, its specialists and healthcare personnel have fought the disease in more than 40 countries around the world.
