A report from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) indicated that in the district of Juayua, department of Sonsonate (west) 344 aftershocks occurred since Saturday, February 1 until Wednesday morning.
The population felt 31 of these aftershocks and the magnitudes were between 2.5 and 3.9 on the Richter scale, however, the MARN does not rule out that an earthquake of equal or greater magnitude of those recorded until Wednesday could occur.
These tremors are attributed to the activation of geological faults in the area of the district of Juayua and surroundings.
The highest magnitude tremor occurred at 6:49 p.m. tonight (local time), with a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale, at a depth of four kilometers and an intensity of III on the Modified Mercalli scale in Juayua.
