According to the state news agency KCNA, the volume compiles 47 speeches, oratorical pieces, and talks of historical significance delivered by the late leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) from January to August 2002.

In the work “On Some Matters for Intensifying Party Work in Accordance with the Demands of the Current Situation and Improving the People’s Livelihood,” Kim Jong Il explained the need of strengthening the Party’s ranks in the face of enemy maneuvers aimed at provoking a new war.

He also outlined the tasks for producing food and basic necessities and supplying them to citizens.

In other pieces, he identifies nationalism with patriotism, proposes the principle of loyalty to one’s leader, and the need to improve combat readiness.

The volume also addresses theoretical and practical issues arising in the process of socialist construction.
