Heath Minister Mekdes Daba informed at a press briefing that the positive diagnoses include a 21-day-old child and his parents. She said the patients are receiving adequate medical care in isolation and report no complications.
Daba stated that, in response to the discovery of the virus, the Ministry took proactive measures, including testing samples from five additional people suspected of infection. The spread of the disease is currently at a low level in Ethiopia.
She explained that the Ministry, in partnership with the Public Health Institute, has established emergency operation centers in the country’s different regions to enhance identification and screening efforts.
The minister pointed out that the virus is primarily transmitted through close physical contact and exposure to respiratory secretions of an infected person, urging the population to take all necessary cautions.
