Mazen Alloush, Director of Relations at the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, told Syrian newspaper Al-Hurriya that the reopening took place despite the continuation of rehabilitation works on the facilities of the said crossing that were shelled and destroyed by Israel last year.
Alloush said all personnel are fully prepared to receive Syrian citizens, as well as Arab and foreign visitors.
The official revealed that the traffic is intense and more than 1,500 travelers were registered on both sides in less than three hours.
Alloush indicated that the opening of the crossing occurred in response to numerous requests from citizens who wished to spend the Eid holiday in Syria, and highlighted the availability of the crossing and staff at its various facilities to provide the necessary assistance to travelers.
