Mexico concerned over operations against migrants in the US

Mexico City, June 8 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican government expressed its deep concern over the operations in US cities, mainly Los Angeles, in which migrants, including Mexican nationals, were detained.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry issued a “respectful but firm call” to US authorities to ensure that all immigration procedures are carried out in accordance with due process, with respect for human dignity and the rule of law.

Through its consular network, the statement adds that Mexico immediately activated assistance and protection mechanisms to ensure that detained nationals receive proper legal advice and fair treatment.

“Our consulates have intensified their efforts to inform the Mexican community about their rights and the actions they can take if they are the target of an immigration operation,” it states.

The government confirmed that it will continue to use all available diplomatic and legal channels to express its dissatisfaction with practices that criminalize migration and jeopardize the safety and well-being of these communities in the neighboring nation.

“Migration must be addressed from a comprehensive, humane perspective, and with regional co-responsibility,” the Mexican entity emphasized, reiterating its willingness to continue cooperating with its neighbor nation in the search for solutions that prioritize respect for human rights, the rule of law, and shared development.

Following massive protests against immigration raids in Los Angeles that led to a wave of arrests in that US city, President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to the area.
