Institution Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda announced the initial distribution of one million SIM cards with 25 GB of free monthly data to support distance learning.
The program, part of the strategy to bridge the digital divide, will complement the installation of additional cell phone towers in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
The implementation of the “Bayanihan SIM” program, in coordination with the National Economic Development and Planning Authority, will be spread over three years, starting in the second or third quarter of 2025.
The project is expected to reduce school dropout rates and promote digital literacy, particularly in marginalized communities.
