“The Mexican government reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection and defense of the human rights of Mexicans abroad, regardless of their immigration status,” she said in a statement during her regular press conference.
Referring to the raids and protests in Los Angeles, the president made a respectful but firm call to U.S. authorities to ensure that all immigration procedures are carried out in accordance with due process, respecting human dignity and the rule of law.
She emphasized that Mexicans in the neighboring country are hardworking people, honest men and women, and that those without documents have been living there for many years, contributing to the economy of their homeland, but also of the USA, that needs them too.
“The Mexican government will continue to use all available diplomatic and legal channels to express its dissatisfaction with practices that criminalize immigration and jeopardize the safety and well-being of our communities in the United States,” she stressed.
“Mexico ratifies its willingness to continue cooperating with the United States government in the search for solutions that prioritize respect for human rights, legality, and shared development,” she said.
Furthermore, she expressed her disagreement with violent actions as a form of protest and considered that the burning of police cars appears more like an act of provocation than resistance.
