According to British doctors, quoted by the Sky News portal, in the country there is a decrease in labor productivity and when 99% of the population breathes toxic air, almost all organs of the human body are damaged, even with low concentrations of toxins in the air.
The report emphasizes that air pollution has a huge impact not only on mortality and life expectancy, but also on other indicators, mainly on the economy.
The doctors also state that there is new information on significant risks for fetal development in mothers and cancer, as well as heart disease, stroke, mental health problems and dementia.
They also point out that there is no safe level of air pollution and that exposure to it can shorten people’s lives by an average of 1,8 years, second only to cancer and smoking.
The Royal College urged the government to take action to address the crisis and called on ministers to recognize air pollution as a key public health problem in the country.
