Chile’s PCCh candidate calls for unity after winning primaries

Santiago, Chile, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) After winning the primary elections for the Unidad por Chile (Unity for Chile) party alliance, Jeannette Jara called for unity among progressives to continue working for the country and offer it an alternative in the upcoming elections.

Cuerpo : Jara, who ran for the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh), was elected this Sunday as the ruling party’s candidate for the November presidential elections, with 60.20 percent of vote.

She said, “This is a collective project in which everyone has played a fundamental role. I have repeatedly said it: I am not here to sell empty promises or easy solutions. I am not here with miracles, but with the guarantee that we will work tirelessly for our country.”

The PCCh representative, supported by the Accion Humanista (Humanist Action) party and the Izquierda Cristiana (Christian Left) party, easily defeated Carolina Toha of the Partido por la Democracia (Party for Democracy), who obtained 28.07 points, despite having the support of the Socialists, the Radicals, the Liberals, and the Christian Democrats.

Also participating were Gonzalo Winter of the Frente Amplio (Broad Front) with 9.02 points and Jaime Mulet of the Federacion Regionalista Verde Social (Green Social Regionalist Federation) with 2.74 points.

Before a crowd gathered on Ricardo Cumming Avenue in this capital, Jara gave special tribute to the Communist Party of Chile, of which she is a member, and the other leftist, progressive, and social democratic groups that comprise the Unity for Chile party alliance.

Jara, who was also former Labor Minister, included among her program’s leading tasks advancing economic growth, achieving a living wage for all workers, strengthening and modernizing the healthcare system, emphasizing mental health, and continuing housing programs.

Public safety will also be among her priorities, ensuring that people live safely in neighborhoods, towns, and workplaces.
