“With much affection, we greet you on behalf of the People and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua, and we express our joy at your election as the first female president of your beloved country,” the executive branch’s message stated.
Nicaragua sent congratulations to Geerlings-Simons and the members of the National Democratic Party (NDP), with whom they share a long friendship and a tradition of revolutionary struggle for independence, the defense of national sovereignty, and the well-being of their people.
“Sister President, you can count on the friendship and solidarity of the People and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, reiterating our unwavering commitment to continue deepening the bonds of Caribbean brotherhood that unite our peoples and governments.”
“I am very aware of the responsibility that now falls upon our shoulders. This responsibility is compounded by the fact that I am, in fact, the first woman to hold this position,” Geerlings-Simons told the deputies.
She affirmed that she will use all her knowledge, strength, and insight to make the country’s wealth available to the people, with special attention to young people and all those who, until now, have not had the opportunities for optimal development.
