BRICS Summit enters second and last day in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) The 17th BRICS Summit enters its second and final day on Monday, amid a context of unprecedented collapse of the multilateral system, and the bloc focused on working toward its renewal.

According to the official program, the agenda opened with a family photo of the heads of State and Government of the member countries, partners, and those with external commitments.

The plenary session “Environment, COP30 (United Nations Climate Change Conference), and Global Health” opens at 09:00 hours (local time).

The forum concluded its first day on Sunday with an extensive 126-article final document addressing US President Donald Trump’s trade war, violence in the Middle East, and the urgent reform of the United Nations, the World Bank (WB), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Upon adopting the so-called Rio de Janeiro Declaration, the leaders of the 11 BRICS countries defended multilateralism and the demand for greater representation for the Global South.

This text summarizes the diplomatic discussions of the year and establishes key positions on pressing international issues, including the reform of the global governance system and the search for a negotiated solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

One of the central points of its content is a “comprehensive reform” of the UN, highlighting the modernization of the Security Council.

Regarding security, the bloc reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel, based on recognized borders and peaceful dialogue.

On the economic level, it focused on promoting the use of local currencies in transactions between BRICS members, as well as strengthening the New Development Bank (NDB, BRICS Bank) and the Contingent Reserve Arrangement, the financial tools specific to the mechanism.
