According to the province’s meteorological observatory, the center of the typhoon made landfall early Monday morning along the coast of the Taiwanese city of Chiayi, where it left two dead.
The typhoon then continued moving northward and moved back out to sea.
It is expected to make another landfall along the coast between Taizhou (Zhejiang province) and Fuzhou, capital of neighboring Fujian province, sometime between the afternoon and evening of July 8.
From July 7 to 9, central and southern Zhejiang, as well as nearby coastal regions, will receive total rainfall of 60 to 90 millimeters (2.4 to 3.5 inches) as a result of Danas, and rainfall in some areas could exceed 350 millimeters (14 inches).
Zhejiang authorities urged all coastal regions and departments to closely monitor the typhoon’s path, strengthen joint consultations, and implement preventive measures in line with the contingency plan.
