The need for financing to implement national plans related to this issue is one of the issues facing the continent, according to the words of the acting head of the AU, Joao Lourenco, read the day before at BRICS summit by Foreign Minister Tete Antonio.
Media outlets such as Jornal de Angola and the Angola Press agency reported on the speech, where he also emphasized the urgency of strengthening capacities to increase the climate resilience of African nations and other nations most vulnerable to these phenomena.
The importance of the upcoming 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), to be held in November in Brazil, was among the points highlighted by Lourenco, who urged ensuring the implementation of the general decisions taken in this area.
“We are convinced that we can only address climate change if we are able to collectively meet our obligations,” he emphasized, expressing his hope that COP30 will reach consensus on issues such as climate finance to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
