In Haiti humanitarian crisis worsens

Port-au-Prince, July 10 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations (UN) remains attentive on the situation in Haiti, where the worsening humanitarian crisis affecting millions of citizens is noticeable.

More than 16,000 people were displaced by recent armed attacks in the Centro department, adding to the more than 1.3 million residents forced to flee their homes since gang-related violence erupted, half of them children, according to Le National newspaper.

A total of six million people in Haiti need humanitarian assistance amid persistent insecurity and the gradual collapse of essential services. “Displaced women and girls are at particular risk to their safety, including sexual and gender-based violence, with cases reported in some displacement sites,” emphasizes a UN report cited by the newspaper.

The international organization noted that a lack of funding continued to hamper aid to Haiti. It points out that the 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan for Haiti is the least funded of all global programs.

After the first half of 2025, $75 million had been received, only eight percent of the $908 million deemed necessary.

“From January to March, more than 720,000 people received emergency food assistance, 25,000 received emergency shelter kits, and 35,000 received essential non-food items,” the source stated.

While nearly 170,000 had access to drinking water and 55,000 had access to emergency sanitation facilities, the UN highlighted.
