As recalled by the Presidency in a press release, Ramaphosa announced the appointment of the Group of Eminent Persons (GPE) to guide and promote the National Dialogue.

The GPE, the text explained, is composed of prominent personalities from society with a demonstrated commitment to fostering social cohesion and nation building.

The Eminent Persons come from all over the country and from various areas of public life.

The meeting provides an opportunity for the president to outline the expectations and mandate of the Eminent Persons Group, and for GPE members to share their views on the role and organization of the National Dialogue, the text adds.

The GEP will receive a briefing from the National Dialogue Preparatory Task Force on progress toward the first National Convention on August 15, 2025, the presidency announced.

The Preparatory Working Team, which is composed of representatives from various foundations, civil society organizations and the Presidency, is responsible for the practical arrangements of the National Dialogue until a representative Steering Committee has been established.
