Following the official launch in Lunda Norte province, the immunization programme extends to specific municipalities of Cabinda, Cuanza Sul, Huíla, Namibe and Zaire, taking into account the active outbreaks of the disease that has already caused more than 750 deaths throughout the national territory since the beginning of the year.
For the campaign Minsa mobilized 942 teams composed of vaccinators, mobilizers and supervisors who will carry out their work in the communities to reach the number of people expected made up of population from one year old.
According to the ministry´s information, immunization is part of a broader response that includes strengthening epidemiological surveillance, access to safe water and sanitation, and timely treatment of cases.
With more than 23,000 cholera cases registered since January, Angola received two million doses of oral vaccine against the disease and various diagnostic materials from the International Coordination Group, funded by the Alliance for Vaccines (GAVI), last week.
GAVI is one of the partners in the current campaign, which has been joined by the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund and the European Union.
