Cuba to run for peace and for Mandela and Fidel memory

Havana, 12 Jul (Latin Press) The "For Mandela and Fidel and World Peace" walk-race, scheduled for July 19 as part of the celebrations for the International Day of Nelson Mandela, was convened today in this capital.

Organized by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) together with the Embassy of South Africa in Cuba and with technical support from the National Commission of Races and Walks, the test will honor two giants of contemporary history: Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro, whose bond of brotherhood and mutual admiration remains an enduring symbol of struggle and dignity.

The event, with start and finish in the parking lot of the Sports City, will cover a circuit of 10 kilometers that will travel emblematic arteries of Havana, such as Via Blanca, Palatino, Santa Catalina and Boyeros, in turns that will stretch muscles both runners and walkers.

Registration can be made on 17 and 18 July at the offices of Marabana in the Sports City.

The Marabana 2024 numbers will be used and, for those who did not participate, a new one will be assigned at the time of registration.

Beyond the competition, this day will be a sports festival for peace, justice and memory, in which the first thousand runners who cross the finish line will receive an incentive that will credit them as classified to Marabana 2025.

Prizes will also be awarded to the top three winners of each sex and to the winners of the associations of people with disability.

This race not only honors two immortal leaders who shared ideals and commitment to the peoples of the south, but also the last qualifying opportunity for Marabana 2025, before the Olympic Ideal half-marathon on August 13.
