China reiterates call to lift US blockade on Cuba

Beijing, July 15 (Prensa Latina) The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated in Beijing its rejection of the economic and commercial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.

China firmly opposes the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States against Cuba and its interference in the Caribbean country’s domestic affairs under the pretext of alleged human rights disruption, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said.

Lin made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a question about the sanctions imposed by Washington on senior Cuban officials. China urges the United States to immediately lift its blockade and sanctions against Cuba, the spokesperson added.

Lin noted that the United States has imposed a comprehensive blockade and illegal sanctions on Cuba for more than 60 years, inflicting profound suffering on the Cuban people.

The sanctions should be lifted immediately rather than intensified.

China firmly supports Cuba in adopting a development path that suits its national conditions and safeguarding its sovereignty and dignity, the official asserted.

If the US truly cares about human rights, it should reflect on its own record of human rights violations at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba and around the world over the years, Lin said.
