Both nations established relations in 1995 and since that time they have collaborated in areas such as health, sport and culture, as well as human resource training through granting scholarships in different specialties.

Likewise, the Belizean government and people have consistently supported the worldwide attempt to lift the blockade imposed on Cuba, and have spoken out in favour of its exclusion from the spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
