This marks a new foundation for their bilateral relations, certified five years after Brexit, or London’s exit from the European Union (EU).
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed the 27-page document, which is accompanied by a 17-point action plan.
The signing took place during a ceremony at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
It was reportedly stated that the objective is to deepen cooperation in defense and economic policy, as well as in curbing irregular migration and combating cross-border crime.
Specific travel facilities are also planned, such as visa exemption for school groups, as well as a direct rail connection between the two countries.
Among the points of the agreement is that, starting at the end of next August, the first British travelers will be able to use automated border contro.
