The Indochinese nation sees the Thai initiative as an attempt to defame Hun Sen and damage the reputation of the kingdom in the midst of a persistent border dispute.
The Department of the Interior´s spokesman Touch Sokhak reported that the Thai police are seeking arrest warrants from Interpol against Hun Sen for a leaked phone call with then-Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The representative is accused of threatening national security.
Sokhak described the complaint as “groundless” and “lying”, arguing that Thailand is trying to take advantage of Interpol because of its chaotic domestic political situation.
He explained that this entity has no authority to arrest, only issues Red Notices, which are not international arrest warrants, and also does not engage in political, military or racial matters.
Sokhak said that Thailand fears the judicial decision of the International Court of Justice on its border dispute initiated on Ma28y and uses this tactic as a “distraction strategy”.
