The labor federation, that decided to stop work on August 12 between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., demands the restoration of true wages for workers and expresses concern about the impact of the upcoming budget on areas such as health, education, and public employment.
Some of the unions affiliated with the unitary federation favored a 24-hour general strike, but the majority of its members opted for a partial, more time-limited measure.
This will be the first strike by the PIT-CNT during President Yamandu Orsi’s administration and will happen amid negotiations with the Wage Council, which includes the Executive Branch, the Workers’ Union, and business chambers.
The PIT-CNT also proposes that the Executive Branch tax the wealthiest sectors of society with one percent of their assets to fund the fight against child poverty, something the government has ruled out.
