Russia to take countermeasures in response to new EU sanctions

Moscow, July 18 (Prensa Latina) Russia could take measures to protect its interests in response to the European Union's (EU) 18th round of sanctions, the Eurasian country's Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Grushko, declared.

“Of course, we will analyze their impact on our economy. If necessary, we will take measures to guarantee our interests. It is also possible to implement countermeasures,” the diplomat said in a press conference on Friday.

Grushko also commented on Western threats against Russia’s partners, stating that the formation of a multipolar world will accelerate due to these measures.

In his opinion, the more threats of secondary sanctions exist, the faster a multipolar world order will form.

Previously, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned that Brazil, China, and India could face serious consequences from secondary sanctions if they do not stop doing business with Russia.

It’s worth recalling that the EU Council approved another package of restrictive measures against Russia, which included new restrictions on oil, banking, and technology supplies.

Bloomberg reported that the EU sanctions against Russia include the disconnection of more than 20 Russian banks from the SWIFT system and the banning of transactions.

It also reported that the EU banned transactions with the Russian Direct Investment Fund and 22 banks.

Regarding this issue, Beijing condemned the new EU sanctions against Russia for harming China’s interests.

Meanwhile, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the EU has begun to work on the 19th sanctions package.
