South Africa hosts G20 Ministerial Meeting on employment

Pretoria, July 30 (Prensa Latina) The South African Ministry of Employment and Labor is holding the G20 Labor and Employment Ministers' Meeting (LEMM) from today until tomorrow, July 31st.

The meeting, chaired by Minister Nomakhosazana Meth, was preceded by the fourth session of the G20 Employment Working Group (EWG), which took place on July 28th and 29th, where technical experts laid the groundwork for the ministerial declaration that will emerge from the meeting.

The LEMM represents the culmination of the four EWG meetings that South Africa has hosted since the beginning of the year, within the framework of South Africa’s G20 presidency, a commitment aimed at promoting strong, sustainable growth with broad-based job creation.

During these technical sessions, according to a ministerial statement, the EWG focused its agenda on four key priorities: inclusive growth and youth employment; gender equality in the workplace; combating inequality and declining labor income; and social security alongside digitalization for an inclusive future of work.

The Working Group’s guiding motto, “Living and working in an unequal world: ensuring decent work and dignified lives,” aligns with the main motto of South Africa’s pro tempore G20 presidency: “Solidarity, equality, and sustainability.”

G20 member countries represent approximately 85% of the world’s gross domestic product and more than 75% of global trade, underscoring the potential scope and impact of the policies and agreements promoted at these meetings.
