For Balboa, art enthusiasts like herself are aware of playing with what they love, and that’s the focus of this exhibition, which celebrates her 80th birthday and the 63rd anniversary of Havana Experimental Graphic Arts Workshop, whose roster she has been a member of for more than four decades.
Human beings come to life by playing, and learn to live by playing, this artist born in the Cuban province of Cienfuegos recently told the press. With the exhibition “Playing with the Future,” which features a group of pieces and prints, the artist bids farewell to the world of visual arts, though not to her field, she confirmed.
Any further exhibitions that are held will feature her own collection of works, she noted.
A distinguished painter, draftsman, engraver, and ceramist, self-taught, she has presented more than 60 solo exhibitions and 200 group exhibitions, both in Cuba and abroad, according to a statement from the National Council of Plastic Arts.
Some of her works are on display in prestigious galleries in different countries and are also part of the Capilla del Hombre (Mankind Chapel) in Ecuador.
This exhibition concludes the celebrations for the anniversary of Havana Experimental Graphic Arts Workshop, founded on July 31, 1962, where Balboa began (1967) making prints.
