Violations of DRC’s Declaration of Principles and rebels continue

Kinshasa, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) The rebels of the Congo River Alliance-March 23 Movement (AFC/M23) and the allied forces of the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continue today to violate the Declaration of Principles signed on July 19.

The spokesman of the armed group, Lawrence Kanyuka, reported on his account in the social network X about a dozen attacks carried out between July 16 and 30 by the militias called Wazalendo, allies of the Congolese army, as well as other members of Kinshasa.

“The repeated violations of the ceasefire demonstrate a flagrant disregard for the Declaration of Principles signed in Doha on July 19, 2025.

The coalition forces of the Kinshasa regime are deliberately attacking densely populated areas, trampling on the tireless efforts of regional leaders and international partners”, he said.

He added that these actions are premeditated and carried out against innocent civilians, for which reason he called the Government’s action “indefensible barbarism” and justified the actions of the AFC/M23 to “eliminate these threats at their source and establish a security perimeter to protect our populations”.

However, also on the side of Kinshasa the actions of the rebels are denounced, who continue to advance in taking control of communities in the east of the country.

While the violence continues, other issues are also of concern to residents of several villages of the Bambo group, in the chiefdom of Bwito, in the territory of Rutshuru in the province of North Kivu, who have denounced the confiscation of all their agricultural products by the AFC-M23.

Community members told Radio Okapi that the rebels have been blocking access to their fields for months and are seizing all of their crops.

They added that there are not many members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda in the area, under which justification they maintain their occupation of the area.
