As part of the tribute to the Commander-in-Chief for the 99th anniversary of his birth, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China praised his life and work, while remembering his contributions to the ties between the two countries.
Yue Zengmin, editor-in-chief of the People’s Daily comic supplement Satire and Humor, said that this cartoon was titled “Cut the Tape” and created in 1963 to commemorate the victory of the Cuban Revolution.
According to the director, it is a work by the first editor-in-chief of Satire and Humour, Ying Tao, and at the centre of the image is Fidel Castro, whom people in China praise as «the bearded man who does not fear, does not bow down and cannot be defeated».
Yue also highlighted the special friendship between the two nations that this year celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
“We use the comic as a means to pay tribute to history and express our best hopes for the future, we hope that tomorrow we can continue to use it as a link to promote cultural exchange and contribute to friendship between our two countries through art”, he added.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco, highlighted the strategic vision of Fidel Castro, his rebellion, dialectical thinking, honesty and patriotism, faith in the people and his defense of the principles and the socialist cause.
