Fidel Castro: Another God in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Aug 13 ( Prensa Latina) Haitians have their gods and worship Erzulie superlatively because she is considered the mother of those born in this nation, but undoubtedly many also venerate Fidel Castro, who was always there for them.

A question to every doctor or staff of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Haiti always has a similar answer, the Haitians love Fidel very much, have him as a god, especially in places where the first doctor they saw in their life was sent by the historical leader of the Revolution.

On the 99th anniversary of his birth, his phrase is still remembered: “Haiti does not need soldiers, it does not need invasions of soldiers; what Haiti needs are invasions of doctors, what Haiti needs, moreover, are invasions of millions of dollars for its development”.

Prensa Latina, based in Port-au-Prince, can bear witness to the infinite affection for the Commander-in-Chief, since once he identifies himself as a Cuban, they immediately express Fidel Castro, zanmi kiben (Cuban friend).

The anecdotes of Cubans in Haiti who saw their lives in danger before some impressive gang members, and with just saying kiben, the bandits answered Fidel Castro, made a sign and were free from the bad time.

By the decision of the historical leader of the Revolution on December 4, 1998, the first contingent of health professionals arrived here, after the effects caused by Hurricane George.

For 25 years, the Medical Brigade has been operating uninterruptedly in Haiti despite extreme weather conditions, earthquakes and the chaos caused by the ferocity of the armed gangs.

Since 1998, the Haitian people have benefited from the work of 14,308 collaborators .

In addition, the Cuban Medical Brigade in Haiti contributed to the graduation of 565 specialists in comprehensive general medicine as part of the human resources training teacher plan.

In the so-called Pearl of the Antilles there are specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine, Internal Medicine, Epidemiology, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Orthopedics, Entomology, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Surgery, Legal Medicine, Imaging and Nursing. It is well known that the Haitian population always appreciates the presence of health workers in the greater Antilles, and that they even often prefer to see Cuban doctors rather than their compatriots. abo/mem/joe
