Ittefa will participate in several high-level forums to present the country’s successful experiences and contributions in the water sector during the event scheduled for August 13-15.
It will also hold bilateral discussions with development partners and related organizations that have strong links with Addis Ababa.
The summit, organized by the African Union and sponsored by the South African Government, is based on decisions taken during the XXXIV Summit of the continental organization.
The Continental Water Investment Programme for Africa (AU-AIP), adopted in 2021 during that meeting, recalled the text, establishes a framework to expand access to safe drinking water and promote sustainable sanitation systems.
Among its objectives, it seeks to address the $30 billion annual investment deficit of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all).
Participants include heads of state, sectoral ministers, development partners, financial organizations, the private sector and other players.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his opening speech stated that “the summit marks a milestone not only for Africa but also for the global movement for access to safe drinking water for all”.
