According to the newspaper Le Nouvelliste, in its request to Paraison, SPNH-17 asked for the use of kamikaze drones to neutralize the gangs because “Too many of our colleagues have fallen, too much police blood has been shed without any offensive being carried out, and the time has come to respond to the violence with maximum force.”
The newspaper reported that two officers were killed and three others were wounded in an ambush in the commune of Kenskoff, besieged by the Viv Assanm gang coalition.
The officers belonged to the Departmental Operations and Intervention Brigade and were patrolling the area when their armored vehicle fell into a pitfall. They were hit by a hail of automatic weapons fire, and the bandits subsequently set the vehicle on fire.
Moments later, the gang members posted a video on social media showing the bloodied fallen officers. In an effort to show “who commands in Port-au-Prince,” the bodies were desecrated and cut into pieces.
Mayor Massillon Jean believes anti-gang operations must be intensified, shifting from a defensive stance to an offensive one, as armed gangs always initiate attacks.
The Haitian National Police now have another enemy: fog, which impedes visibility for surveillance and intelligence work.
