Meeting in The Hague within the framework of the III Annual Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, the participants recognized “the resistance and courage of the Cuban people”, which for more than six decades has faced “a sustained and renewed economic war, as well as countless actions aimed at destroying their Revolution”.
Through a final statement they emphasized that, despite the blockade, the Caribbean nation extends its hands of friendship and solidarity to many peoples of the world, showing altruism and dedication in support of just causes.
The signatories demanded the unconditional and immediate lifting of the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba, and they join the unanimous demand of the international community, expressed in the 32 resolutions adopted on this subject by the United Nations General Assembly.
They stressed that this coercive policy “seriously affects the Cuban economy and has devastating consequences for the health, education and general welfare of the Cubans”.
They also rejected the inclusion of the island in the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism, which they said “has reinforced the negative effects of the criminal blockade, greatly hampering financial and commercial operations and causing serious damage to the livelihood and integrity of the Cuban population”.
The statement also condemned “the distortion of Cuban reality and the tricks of US imperialism,” which “continues to plague this small island, which they have failed to dominate and which has resisted with courage and determination, and will continue to do so”.
“Neither the most cruel blockade nor smear campaigns will be able to overcome the resistance of a worthy people,” they emphasized.
The participants also reaffirmed their “unwavering support for Cuba, a country of peace and solidarity”, and reaffirm their commitment to “continue raising our voice in its defence”.
