According to the statement, the measure seeks to unify efforts to guarantee internal security in that region of southern Syria by organizing patrol operations, border protection, and preventing smuggling and the infiltration of armed elements.

The signatory militias emphasized their commitment to the guidelines of the spiritual leader of the Druze community, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, whom they consider their “legitimate and authorized representative.”

Local networks reported that the tasks assigned to this armed structure also include the protection of the desert areas of the province and coordination with regional and international actors, in an apparent search for logistical and political support.

Furthermore, the intention to institutionalize military and security work was indicated, with a view to its future incorporation into the official structure of the State.

The declaration comes weeks after the cessation of hostilities in Sweida on July 19, following a week of armed clashes that left several dead.
