Vietnam braces for advancing storm Kajiki

Hanoi, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam is getting ready today for the imminent arrival in the central region of the fifth tropical storm of the current season, named Kajiki, which according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting brings strong winds and widespread rains.

In the early hours of Sunday morning Kajiki was

in the northwest sea of Hoang Sa archipelago, about 620 kilometers (km) from Nghe An province and about 600 km east of Ha Tinh. The strongest wind was level 12 (118-133 km/h), with gusts of level 15.

The storm, moving at a speed of about 20 km/h, should be at 07:00 (local time) tomorrow south of the Gulf of Bac Bo, about 160 km from Nghe An, and about 140 km from Ha Tinh, maintaining intensity 12-13, with gusts of 15 and potential to intensify.

In view of this situation, the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, issued an Official Dispatch warning that, according to forecasts, “this is a very strong storm, with a wide range of influence, which moves very quickly and is especially dangerous”.

From tonight until the 27th the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will have heavy rainfall of 150 to 300 millimeters, which in some places may be more than 600 mm, with a very high risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying areas, riverbanks and urban areas.
