In his meeting with the Chinese leader, in conjunction with his participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Leaders’ Summit, Modi emphasized that cooperation between their nations is linked to the interests of 2.8 billion people in both countries.
The Indian Prime Minister also expressed his country’s commitment to promoting bilateral ties based on mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity, adding that this is necessary for the growth and development of both countries, as well as for a multipolar world and Asia in line with 21st-century trends.
Both leaders reaffirmed that India and China are partners for development, not rivals, and that their differences should not turn into disputes. They also expressed their satisfaction with the successful withdrawal of troops last year and the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border areas since then.
Modi and Xi expressed their commitment to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary issue, recognized the decisions taken by their special representatives in this regard, and agreed to continue supporting their efforts.
Furthermore, the two dignitaries emphasized on the need of strengthening people-to-people ties through direct flights and visa facilitation, taking advantage of the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra and tourist visas.
Regarding economic and trade relations, they recognized the role of their economies in stabilizing global trade and emphasized on the need to act from a political and strategic scope to expand trade and investment ties and reduce the trade deficit.
