In a separate incident, three minors were seriously injured when another device detonated in the town of Al-Madmar, in Palmyra, east of Homs province.
Syrian authorities noted that large areas of the country remain contaminated with mines and explosive remnants of war, posing a serious obstacle to the return to normal life and to agricultural and civil recovery efforts.
The Minister of Emergencies and Disaster Management, Raed Al-Saleh, reported that a National Mine Action Center was created in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to unify the supervision and planning of clearance operations.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that between January and June of this year, 390 civilians, including more than 100 children, were killed in Syria due to unexploded ordnance explosions.
