The visit is focused on economy, investment, and trade, although issues related to the Panama Canal, bilateral cooperation, the geopolitical situation in the Americas, and Japan’s initiative for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific will be addressed with Ishiba.
Mulino will also meet with representatives of Sumitomo Corporation and KN Trading Co. Ltd., companies interested in infrastructure projects in Panama, such as the interoceanic gas pipeline, Metro Line 3, and the Panama-David-Frontera train.
The Panamanian delegation will also hold meetings with shipping groups, Japan Shipowners’ Association (JSA), energy sector companies, and the state foreign trade agency.
The head of State will also participate in two seminars to attract Japanese investment, while the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) will sign a memorandum of understanding on port matters.
Mulino will attend Expo 2025 in Osaka on September 6 to celebrate Panama’s National Day, whose theme is Saving Lives. It seeks to highlight the country as a strategic bridge and carbon negative on the international stage.
