AFC/M23 political coordinator Corneille Nangaa asserted that Kinshasa is hindering the progress of negotiations that were supposed to lead to the signing of a peace agreement, and that the talks in Qatar have stalled, with no concrete results on the ground, Actualité.CD reported.
During a press conference held the day before, he said that the DRC government is violating one of the key points of the Declaration of Principles signed in Doha on July 19: the release of prisoners close to the AFC/M23.
He noted that this action is not a gift to the rebels, but rather represents “a duty of justice, a social and moral reparation.” However, he added, Kinshasa persists in holding hundreds of people “unjustly in prison, often accused without material evidence.” Nangaa called on the Qatari mediation, the African Union, the United Nations, and bilateral and multilateral partners to address this situation and pressure the DRC government to comply with the agreement.
The AFC/M23 coordinator also denounced and condemned the attacks by government forces against their positions, which violate the permanent ceasefire.
