During an event to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the president highlighted China’s support at crucial moments since the triumph of the revolution in 1959, as well as Beijing’s constant denunciation of the US blockade.

As the president said, Cuba is pleased that socialist China has demonstrated the possibility of achieving a sustainable and high-quality development under the leadership of the Communist Party and without renouncing the defense of sovereignty and independence.

The special relations that unite the two nations have deep historical roots, are based on similar purposes and ideals and have been accompanied by the personal attention, guidance and high priority provided by the highest leaders of both countries, from the historical generation to the present, he added.

Diaz-Canel highlighted the strong inter-party relations and the monitoring and implementation of the consensus reached with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping.

He reaffirmed the common will to project, with political orientation and a strategic approach, bilateral links in all areas.

The Cuban leader noted that there is broad agreement between the two nations and urged continued mutual support on core issues of interest to the international agenda.

During the event, Han Zheng, Vice President of China also emphasized the special friendship between the two nations and the multisectoral cooperation that the two countries are currently engaged in.
